OEM Question for Bolt R-Spec Models
« on: October 05, 2020, 11:28:43 pm »
Hi everybody,

I noticed when I search for OEM parts for my 2015 R-Spec I get 4 different submodels. I'm assuming I would select BOLT R SPEC - XVS95CFCB Metallic Black California since mine is in CA and it has the "raven" black with red pinestripe.

Reason I ask is in the future I'll probably replace the tank with a new OEM tank. Just want to make sure it's the same graphic and color.

My R-Spec

Thank you kindly.

I think up to 2015 we have six models listed: a basic, R-spec, and C-Spec -- one model of each for California, and one model of each for the rest of the US.  You actually see twelve models listed for 2015 as (I think) each model was available in two color choices.

For 2016 only ten models are listed, as the C-spec that year only came in one color choice.

For 2017 the C-spec was eliminated from the US market, and there were only six models listed, as the Basic model now only came in one color choice.

For 2019 and 2020, only four models shown, and only no color choice: a Basic and an R-spec -- one of each for California, and one of each for the rest of the US.  And the colors are the same for 2019 and 2020.

For 2021, only two models shown, an R-spec for California, and an R-spec for the rest of the US, no color choice either. No more Basic models for the US market.

Right. When I select the 2015 R-Spec (what I have)  it then gives me choices for the sub-models like in the photo I posted. Wondering which is the correct model. I'm assuming XVS95CFCB Metallic Black California ?

Thanks for your time.

I suspect your tank color is the same for California and for the rest of the US.  But just to add a note of caution, it is possible for the bike to have been imported into California from another state, as there is no state-line inspection to my knowledge. I think you can tell from the VIN # what model it is.  Your dealer should be able to run that for you for free (if you bought it from a dealer), but if you bought it from a private owner, the dealer might want to charge you for running a VIN check.

Do you know if the tank comes with the graphics already?

Both US and CA black R-Spec tanks have the same part number so there's only one choice if you want black. It looks like the graphics are sold separately which is odd for a glossy finish on a fuel tank.

Yeah, I thought it was part of the finish. Not a sticker  ???

All Bolts are XVS95C (C-Spec is XVS95CR). The next letter indicates the year (2014 is E, 2015 is F, etc.). Yes, the second C is for CA and the last letter, B for black.

Is there a place on the bike itself that lists what model it is?

So that would be the model I currently have?

Under the seat there should be a more descriptive 4 digit code. 1TP* standard Bolt, 2DX* R-Spec, B33* C-Spec and BL3* SCR. The XVS95C* doesn't distinguish between standard and R-Spec other than color and year which should also be on a more descriptive frame sticker and the year is the 10th digit in the serial #. I can't tell you exactly what's on the frame labels without pulling the seat. Besides those labels, there should be service specs for adjusting valves and such.

Chatted online with a sales rep at bikebandit.com and turns out the tank for my 2015 R-Spec is discontinued.

Thanks everyone.

You can get a 2019 black tank and apply the 2015 graphics. It's seamless and holds a quart more fuel. It has a graphic on top but nothing on the sides. I have one on my 2015 C-Spec.

Thanks Lunkhead. I was thinking about changing to a different year tank or model. Since I have the red stripe wheels I was thinking of a 2015 red tank from the standard bolt to match or stick with all black. I didn't know the 2019 tank is slightly larger.

When you got the 2019 tank, the graphic was already on it? That's what I was hoping if I got the 2015 tank.

Just wondering why you're going to replace the tank w/ the same one?  Is there something wrong w/ your current tank?  Sorry if I missed it somewhere.

I used to have this color tank and it was my least fav one (bought the bike used and this was the only used one at the shop).  Have you looked at other color tanks?  If I had my choice of any color I'd go w/ all black, to me those look the best.
