So I've been using K&N204 filters with Royal Purple Max-cycle 20w-50 since the first oil change. I've never had an issue with leaks or of any sort. But lately been considering going full Royal Purple.

I've researched the cross reference charts from both R.P. & other websites & was able to find one or 2 connections from the charts.
Honestly, I'm a little skeptical it will fit but according to Wix 51365 the matching filter would be 10-2876 for R.P. Which technically is an automotive filter & could also be an answer for the previous question about using a bigger filter.
Now, I'm skeptical because of the one match I found, but after further research I found that the K&N HP 1008 was also a match that's compatible with Yamaha filter 5GH-13440-00-00. So I'm hoping it will give me no issues & even more so actually provide better results after an analysis. First I have to get an analysis with the K&N filter. However I'm planning on flushing the engine because of a different issue.

Doing some other cross numbering, it looks the Fram Ultra part XG6607 and oversized 3.5 " XG7317 will fit. BITOG hold the Fram Ultra specifically in high regard in terms of construction and fully synthetic filter media. I'm using them in all my cars at the moment.

So, update on the oil filter from Royal Purple DOES FIT. I thought it was larger as for cars but actually same size as the K&N I used.

I know it's not on the original list but 51356 doesn't fit either, for the same reason.  Just in case anybody was thinking about trying one.  It's interesting to me because this filter works on a gen2 Vmax.

Cant remember exactly but one of them auto parts store have mentioned that either WIX or K&N bought the other so I suppose it doesn't really matter now from which brand you get as long as they fit properly, but I digress.

The XG6607 and XG7317 are identical in size. I just did an oil change on my Bolt and went with the XG6607. In fact, Fram's website shows XG6607 as compaible Bolt Oil filter.

Just an update to the OEM Yamaha filter.

I got back from the Yamaha dealer today. He gave me an oil filter with part number 5GH-13440-61.

I was told the 5GH-13440-50-00 was superseded by the 5GH-13440-60. Then 5GH-13440-60 was superseded by 5GH-13440-61 for whatever reason.

CHROME - the one with the c in the Part Number (hard to see it on your bike - but if chrome ya want, chrome ya get :)

Decided to go with the Fram XG6607 on future oil changes, as I can get it at WalMart for about $6.

Interesting videos  But he doesn't actually test any of them for contaminant removal.  His remarks only discuss how they are built, and he admits he doesn't really know how some of them work internally.  Also, with the advent and rise in popularity of fully synthetic oils, which don't degrade so much as the old petroleum-based oils, the need for an oil filter may be quite a bit less than it used to be.  In fact, having a thicker filter may be wasted money if what you're filtering is fully synthetic.  Anyway, what I would be paying attention to (if there are any videos on it) would be videos showing contaminant removal comparisons using fully synthetic oils.

There are some more videos, they all end with K&N being high on the list. 

KN crams in a LOT of filter material.  Clearly, amount of material isn't the only factor, I mean, if you crammed in 40 feet of screen door material vs 5 feet of KN isn't better; but all things being roughly equal, size matters. I just like this guy's approach. 

You should check out "Project farm" on youtube.  He hasn't done oil filters, but he has done some oil videos.
