LIST OF COMPATIBLE OIL FILTERS -

This was posted by Mr. ShakerNorm in another post. Ready to do a Oil Change myself and took me forever to find this post so decided to post it again so others can find it easily.

Just in case anyone needs them, here's a list of compatible oil filters.....  Personally I'll use Fram or K&N when available....

K&N      KN204, KN198, KN303, KN303C

Yamaha, Fram, KN, Wix (which is what I used) are black. I doubt any are chrome. Guess you could spray paint it down.

I'll be doing my next change pretty soon (7000 km), myself, and will probably go to the K&N, now that I know where I can get them easily!

Funny how many people poo poo Fram. But I know many people who have used their filters in cars for years, with no noticeable adverse affect. But then again, its like I say to my wife, "Does Oil of Olay really work? Who's going to compare one side of the face with and without?" Same could be true for Fram (and others). Would an engine really last longer with K&N or OEM or is this all just marketing BS? (as asked by a marketing guy)

Personally, I haven't checked the specifications on them, so I can't really put in my usual 2 cents.....  But so far my oil still looks pretty clean after 4000 km since my last oil change, when I put in a Fram. 

By far the most important thing is to change your oil and filter regularly - THAT is what keeps all that dirt and crap out of your engine - not the filter itself.

And along that same line - what type of oil you use isn't as important as changing it, too.  No matter what type you use, it won't break down enough to worry about between normal oil changes. 
That being said, I do use Mobil1 15W45....  LOL

I agree and am trying the Fram for the first time on a bike. I've been using Rotella T6 Full Sythetic and will continue to grease up the interior of my Bolt with the same.

I'm a big fan of K&N filters. I've used them in a lot of my vehicles without fail, even when not religious about regular oil changes. Since motorcycles run higher, harder and faster than cars regular changes are even more important.

Mobile 1, eh? I've used it before and it worked! Sounds like a plan.

I too have been using the K&N filters for several years now...the KN303 with its 14mm Wrench fitting on top makes it so easy to get the old filter off...

I used the KN303 on all of my VMaxes (GEN1 after about 1992 and ALL GEN2s) and now on this bolt at the first oil change coming soon...

I saw a member asking about Chrome filters...the KN303C is the chrome version for the K&Ns...

And at one point back in 2006 or so, I was using the Fram PH6017A because they are always in stock at most Walmarts...and I remember that they also have the Chrome versions of it...I thought it was a PH6017 without the "a" suffix...could be wrong on the number but in any case, they DO carry both the Black and Chrome versions of the Fram filters in the PH6017 series...why do I know this???...because I mistakenly bought a Chrome one instead of the black one that I wanted...

But since changing over to the KN303, I won't go back to the Fram because you need to have an oil filter tool that fits the Frams...which are also sold at Walmart...go figure...
