USB ports have a parasitic drain. You have to disconnect it or it'll kill the battery completely after a couple weeks. They aren't as sophicated as you think. I specifically bought a Battery Tender brand thinking it wouldn't drain the battery but it did. Completely killed the battery.

I had this happen on another bike....the usb had a light to indicate it was in use so it was definitely leaking but are you saying any usb drains?  He could always wire to a switched power source to keep it from draining the battery.

Seems like there's always some loss with any kind of voltage conversion. With a 12 V, 14 Ah battery, a typical USB port consuming about 15 mA will drain it in about 40 days. Factor in it's own self drain rate and it's down to a few weeks or less depending on temperature.
