Does drilling a hole in exhaust affect bikes performance? Thinking about doing this cheap mod but want to make sure that aside from change in sound  there is no change in performance.

I personally have done it and I would say yes. I did it how low and mean recommends it. I noticed much more top end power. Seemed like before it lost power above 1/2 rpm

No offense bro, but it's all in your head.
No way drilling holes in the exhaust (with no other mods) on a 50HP bike is going to give you "much more top end power."

I drilled the holes around the outer edge.  I didn't drill the bigger center hole.  The bike sounds much better, but there isn't any performance difference.

People have commented that they like the sound of the bike better now than before, and I'm happy with it too.

I agree with Shane.

I gained 50 HP, calculated by my formula Tom's HP gain = Actual HP gained + 50

Like Shane said, there is no effect on performance.
If you're thinking of doing the mod to be heard without having to spend much, you might want to just get an EMGO slip-on instead. They're under 80 bucks to buy and install is pretty easy. I drilled my stock exhaust (did the Low and Mean first, then the holesaw method ) and was pretty unimpressed with the sound difference. Putting on an inexpensive Emgo made a much bigger difference without breaking the bank. A few of us on here have done it (there are 3 different model exhausts to choose from). Here's a link to a thread about it:

I did the low and mean, only 5 holes and the engine seems more elastic, less engne braking, which was annoying in my opinion, improved the sound too...

Curious, which EMGO did you install?  I'm not finding one listed for the Bolt.
