[Solved] 14" slim apes and cable lengths
« on: May 23, 2020, 11:26:51 am »
Ahoy!

Soon to get my XV950, and will 100% be putting bars on it (along with some other bits to make it mine). I'm thinking of getting these specific bars https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/392239142417, and need to know if i either need to buy the over-priced yamaha kit, or if i can maybe use the standard items?

Thanks! And getting it from the US to the UK is at an acceptable amount. Glad there's a black 16" option!

Cables and brake lines are cool, but how do you extend the wiring to the switches ?

Cool.

If you carefully unwrap the hand control wiring cables at the point where they join under the tank, you will find them doubled at points, which would allow some expansion.  If you couple that with re-routing the electrical cables so they don't wrap around the triple head, then you get quite a bit of extended electrical cable.  Whether that is enough electrical cable to accommodate 14" slim apes I don't know.

Ooo Let me check on mine - BTW mine is an SCR - and may have it already extended cos well … its already got wide handlebars.
Now I also found wiring extensions on ebay courtesy of our virus spreading friends - so I guess that's to extend the switches to the higher/wider bars.
Cool.
Srinath.

Extending wiring is pretty easy. Just gotta take the time to do it right.

I intend to extend and use a connector block to make switching back or whatever easier. Plus it looks much more professional.
