Plug and play horn swap

So one of the electrical connector tabs on my horn bit the dust and I needed a quick fix. I had been planning on getting a louder, more powerful horn down the line  but I didn't feel like running extra wiring and a relay because it happened during a road trip... so I needed something fast and easy.
I found a Hella horn with the same wattage as ours but much lower tone (12v,  30w,  340hz,  112db). Fits perfectly no mods needed. I did bend the connector tabs 90º to have them facing back like the stock one... very easy with pliers, no problem. It's the standard horn for many Mercedes cars. Same volume as our stock horn but lower note.

Cost me 12 bucks and sounds way better than stock horn. Looks better too. Here's a pic

Whats the size on this compared to stock?  Any pics with it on the bike?

Same size diameter... might be a bit deeper but I didn't notice any major difference in size. I can take a shot of it tomorrow but it looks almost identical to stock.

Well done Julian.  Been meaning to find a bit "deeper" horn myself, but not real fond of the snailshell-type products.

Just check that horn's specs online first ,some are 40 or even 72watts... our bike is set up for  36watt max (3.0 amps x 12v) according to the maintenance manual... wouldn't want to fry your horn switch or pop a fuse

Bought it at a Rexbo shop... German auto-parts shop, while I was heading to Denmark. (Though that probably doesn't help you much) Ebay it is then...
Any auto horn that's rated 12v,  36watts or less, and is "low tone" as in lower than 400hz (I think our horn is around 390-410hz or so )  should work though.  I know Hella makes a two horn set called the Supertone and the Low Tone one is 300hz... even lower than the one I got. Comes with a metal grill in different colors, each horn is 3.0 amps (36watts) so if you use only one of them you're fine. Or put in the relay that comes with the kit and use both...

So I checked and can verify that the stock horn is 400hz  and the Hella horn is 340hz  (for those interested).

Just be aware that the Wolo is 4.5 amps (our bike's maintenance manual rates the horn at 3.0 amps max) you may never have a problem but it is higher draw than the stock set-up. It might not be a bad idea to put in a relay if you use this one.

Hahaha... yeah the recording isn't the best. In real life it sounds deeper. Just sounds like a car instead of a scooter.
