Title: Oil Cooler - HEEEELP
Post by: VOOMVOOM on October 10, 2020, 05:18:01 am
Newbie here!
I have a 2014 Bolt. I have it at my holiday home in Turkey. I am loving the bike but having overheating issues!!
2 up at 80mph after about an hour when it's warm (over 35'C, 95'F) the engine temp goes above 135'C (275'F) and overheating light pops up and the bike stops!!
I am thinking of fitting an oil cooler. The only obvious choices are "Jagg Oil Coolers" or "REVO Oil Cooler"!
Has anyone here fitted either? Do they work? Any issues?
Bottom line, I have to do something!
Any tips, suggestions will be most appreciated.
PS. What are the best tyres for the Bolt? I get a lot of spin and wheel lock on the rear on a hard ride! (Turkish tarmac seems more slippery then here in UK!!!)

Are you using a heavy oil?
10w40 ester fully synthetic will flow easy and cool better.

Thank you for the reply.
I have no idea what they use over there! As I take it to the Yamaha dealer, I guess (hope!!) they would use whatever is recommended by Yamaha.
I'll check, if not that could be a good start!
The temp almost never drops below 9C (48F) in winter so I guess it would be okay!

It's not pretty, but sometimes things that work aren't

I live in south central Texas where it gets very hot. I installed Revo oil cooler. Easy installation and it works. It's big but that gives it more cooling area. Still alot of engine heat but that comes with the territory.

Wait does the bolt even have an oil temp light?  I thought it was just an oil pressure light?

A couple months ago I rode my bike quite a few miles in 115 degree F temps.  It was hot as hell and when I got off, the back of my right leg was red from the heat, but never had any lights pop up.  The whole time I was worried it was too hot for the engine, but luckily didn't have any issues.

I fitted a KOSO speedo and it has everything on it including engine temp, gears, etc.! It was a mild ball-ache to set it up but it's defiantly worth it.

Anyway, I only seem to have the problem when I have a pillion and at high speeds, never any problems in traffic or slow speeds. It dose get hot but never above 115'C (240 F)

I think I am going to go for "Jagg 762-1000", even if doesn't help, it looks cool anyway!!
