Put me in the four-wheel plus two-wheel camp. I see them as complementary, not as competition.
My main "freedom" machine is my pickup truck -- carries all my loved ones anytime, night or day, rain or shine, in comfort and security, plus any cargo - from the bike itself to whatever I might need to transport. And it is armored in front with a grill & brush guard, and in the rear with a massive iron retrieving tool.
My bike (the Bolt) is my personal toy -- can be ridden day or night, rain or shine, and carry one passenger and a little cargo -- though never as safe and secure as the pickup. And I wouldn't want to ride it more than a couple hours at a time.
Which do I use most, now? The Bolt, because I don't go out much at night, or in the rain, or very far from home -- and the bike is easiest just to get on and go for a ride to nowhere in particular. I even take it to the grocery store when I am just buying for myself.
