2 Repair Questions (Tank/Exhaust)
« on: August 09, 2020, 10:59:14 pm »
How can I repair a dented gas tank? Wondering if thereís a semi-easy DIY trick to pop that dent out. And what matching blue paint?...

How can I either repaint same color of this exhaust pipe or would I be better off with exhaust tape?

Thanks guys!!

There was a video of a paintless dent repair guy in atlanta on youtube pull a dent much like that from a harley limited edition numbered tank. Looked amazing after the job.
Look on you tube.
Cool.

Thanks! Ordered a PDR kit! Won't get the best results, but hopefully anything better than nothing. And have spare blue paint lying around from previous vehicles that might match nicely.

Just need to figure out what to do with exhaust now. Was about to order High-Heat Rustoleom but realized I don't even know what color to get...black would probably be too dark and only other option is aluminum...not sure that will look any better either. Guess I'd need to get primer and top coat. Wish there was a high heat paint touch-up pen. Exhaust wrap wouldn't look right because have to secure the wrap. A tape would be nice but doubt that exists.
Update: Don't think I need primer. Just ordered Rustoleom Specialty Silver High Heat Ultra. Feel like that's the best matching color. I'll just do that entire scratched section make it look clean. I know with the primer you have to let the bike idle in cycles to let it set/bake on even to point of smoking. Unsure if I need to follow such procedures when bypassing primer.

For the paint, you'll need to get a base coat and top coat to get the right color.   You can find the paint you need from colorrite.

For your exhaust paint, check this thread out.  ChrisMitch seemed to have found something that matches.

WOW!! You rock!!!! Going to try that dent kit Wednesday see how it goes before purchasing the matching tank paint. Never knew about that website. Had no idea where to find that matching paint. Thank you so much!

If only they had high heat exhaust paint in a jar as well that would be perfect.

Appreciate that!! Unfortunately can not find the VHT Matte Black anywhere. Must be an older product no longer in production. Would have given that a shot due to the recommendation, but only other alternatives seem to be VHT Flat black and that seems too dark compared to OEM thatís why didnít get a black canít find one that matches. Itís such a weird color I tried to search on parts websites but I guess when you buy the part itís bare metal and needs to be painted. Only other option would be to contact Yamaha or dealer I guess to find out exact color code. But itís probably not even a color more of a metal finish.

For those of you wondering WTF happened. Donít rest your boot on the exhaust pipe. I was resting on the crash bars and the vibrations shook my feet down and realized my heel was really hot and melted the back of my boot right on the exhaust pipe so didnít want to leave it on because it was still melting and smelt bad so has no choice but to scrape it off with a spoon...Only would happen to me. Thatís what I get for trying to enjoy a nice relaxing Sunday ride.

Maybe gray manifold paint?  Not sure but thought I'd throw it out there.

Really appreciate your help. The one I listed above that I ordered looks like these attached pictures. Iím so bad with matching asked the old lady what she thinks and she thinks they both ďlook about the sameĒ so guess Iíll stick to the one I got see how it comes out.

You should get the footpads like the ones cefox got on this thread so your feet won't slip off.

I did some digging and i'm going to do the same thing.  It looks like the mc enterprises are out of business or something as their phone number has been disconnected but, fear not, i have found similar ones from bikemaster.

I got a set from ebay.
