A bit late in posting but thought I'd share some correspondence...it doesn't explain exactly why Yamaha changed the Publication Number but if someone wants to call Cypress Headquarters, maybe they would share(?)...I doubt that but you never know...

Maria,
That's what I figured.

I ordered the current version (LIT-11616-27-30), just to be safe.

Appreciate your assistance.

All the best

Subject: Need to know the difference in Publication Numbers

Yamaha first released LIT-11616-27-09.  Then discontinued this literature number and assigned a new number for this year and model which is LIT-11616-27-30.  The reasons are unknown to us and we recommend you contact Yamaha’s customer relations in Cypress, Ca.  We only distribute the literature for Yamaha.  We do know however that we no longer sell or produce LIT-11616-27-09.

I apologize for not being able to provide you with a better reason.

Best regards,

Subject: Need to know the difference in Publication Numbers

Hello,
I need to know what the difference is between the following two Service Manuals for the 2014 Yamaha Bolt is.

LIT-11616-27-09 (3 Pictures below)

LIT-11616-27-30 (1 Picture below)

I realize that on the Yamahapubs.com website, LIT-11616-27-30 is the one specified as being the current one and the one being sold.

But many 2014 Yamaha Bolt owners have the LIT-11616-27-09 version and several discussion have arisen concerning the compatibility of this version. And the
LIT-11616-27-09 version (NEW) is currently being sold via vendors and on several internet outlets.

Is it just a "First" and "Second" Edition print type of change or is there some things that we need to know inside of the older version that could be of concern?

Would appreciate an honest reply to this so that first, I can make a decision on which to purchase and also to pass on any info that you may be able to provide.

All the best

Well, I got my Service Manual today...wasn't the one that I had though I bought on EBay but I have basically been told, "indirectly" that I made the mistake and its not their fault...ok...please don't send the Kill Squad from the Right Coast...lol

Seller's message:
"I DID NOT LIST A PART NUMBER ON THIS ITEM THE MANUAL WAS LISTED AS A 2014 AND THAT IS WHAT YOU GOT IF YOU WANT TO RETURN IT SEND IT BACK AND I WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY"

They sound MAD, huh???...all UPPER case "Smileys"...ummmmm....could be a new trend...lmao...

I told them, I would keep the manual and contact Yamaha Cypress to see if I can get a Publication Design Addendum Page for the changes made between LIT-11616-27-09 and LIT-11616-27-30...I need the manual now so I will have to live with it...

I just hope that the Torque Values, Valve Clearances and other technical data is not TOO far off, like it was between the 1st and 2nd editions of the GEN1 VMax Yamaha Service Manuals...which caused snapped axles, broken cases and in a few cases, scattered top ends...but I guess this M/C Dealer doesn't worry about the little details...

I've got the -09, as well - it would be good to know if there are any differences so we can note them.

Hope you hear back from them, soon.

Norm,
Yeah, it's always good to know what changes were made...in the case of the GEN1 VMax that I made, Yamaha never included an Addendum Page in the newer manual and so guys that had the older superseded manual were following it to the letter, as they should but they started to have problems with different things which they posted on the Forum and after a few of us investigated by comparing manuals, we found the differences and it was juts sickening...

I mean, on the valve shim chart, it was no biggie as it was visually apparent that someone in Yamaha has done a bad, "cut and paste" from Intake to Exhaust shim charts...

But on the torque value chart...who the hell would ever know that 95 ft lbs was suppose to be 55 ft lbs...as an example...

Until we can compare manuals with someone that buys the LIT-11616-27-30 or we are able to get an addendum page from Yamaha (I doubt we can as the are real AHs up there in Cypress...I know the reply already...take the bike to n authorized Yamaha dealer)...lets be careful with the specs contained within our manuals
(LIT-11616-27-09)...

I can now finish up my Wiring Diagrams...I made three versions (BW Line Legend Color Codes, BW Tagged Color Codes and Color Tagged Color Codes)...should be able to get them verified and done in a few days...

Still working on the Scanners with the Chinese...it takes 10 emails both ways due to a language problem, when it would be 1 emails normally...lol...

I DO know what the issue is though...its in the initiation data stream...probably won't be able to resolve that problem...I did a USB Serial Port Sniff today...

OUCH - 40 ft-lbs difference is a LOT! That would definitely cause some problems.....

I wonder if you posted their email addy - if we all bombarded them to find out the differences..... Maybe they'd listen if they got 200 emails from their customers all asking the same thing..... LOL  Something like that usually gets attention.

Makes sense that sellers on ebay would sell off all the -09 manuals at a discount when they knew a newer -30 one was on it's way.

Can't wait to see what your Wiring diagrams look like....

Norm,
The lady that emailed me back after I submitted an inquiry at;
http://www.yamahapubs.com/index.do?pg=inquiry

They are the Publications arm of Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA...and they do not know according to her, what changes are made and that I would need to contact Yamaha in Cypress...

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA
6555 Katella Avenue
Cypress, CA 90630

Sales, marketing and distribution of Star Motorcycles.

Star Motorcycles Customer Relations
(800) 656-7695

And, they do not handle orders or inquiries from outside the USA...

I don't think we'll get anywhere with Cypress...I've NEVER had any sensible replies or help from them at all...even when we had the Oil Pump Recall on the GEN2 VMaxes...all they say is that, all customers need to take their bikes and questions to an authorized Yamaha dealer...

My question is....then why even have a "Star Motorcycles Customer Relations Toll-Free number"...they could save some money...

If any member reads this and has the newer Service Manual (LIT-11616-27-30), that would be willing to loan it out for a few days with postage paid both ways, please PM me....all I want to do is a page-by-page comparison, so I can take notes and make my own addendum page to post up here on the forum...I'll even kick in the cost of a six-pack (Beer or Soda, your choice)...just trying to do Yamaha Star's job...lol...
