Looking for expertise... C-Spec Conversion
« on: August 03, 2015, 12:32:26 pm »
So long story short, I bought a C-Spec without a test drive, and it was an epic mistake; riding position is not for me. I've already bought 2 inch risers, but its not enough.

First things first; I'm looking at changing the triple tree to the stock Bolt, and buying an aftermarket handlebar, and stock grips/levers... basically, I want everything above the triple tree to be as stock Bolt....

Can this be done, and more importantly, do you know anyone who can do it in the NY area? I feel that I don't have the technical skill to actually perform such a task.

Thanks for any help.

IDK man! That's a tall order! I sure with the right amount of money, anything can be done! Hit Delaware Pete. He might have a better idea of what can be done to help you.

Looks like you can probably buy complete foot control assembly for the standard Bolt. The attachments are about in the same spot. Just that would make it a lot more comfortable! Personally I like forward controls. But I suspect that using forward controls kits using your controllers might not work well. You know may be with the Low and Mean ones! Just thinking out loud...sorta!

I don't mind the more forward position, but I can't have legs under me, it was hurting my old Army hips!

I'm more concerned with the handlebar, as changing that will give me IMMEDIATE results. Not that changing the foot controls won't, but thats secondary to changing the handlebar. Might have Island Powersports in Long Island, NY work with me on doing this, as its a little too much for my inexperienced knowledge in motorcycles to handle.

It really should be as simple as changing the triple tree, new handlebar, new grips & possibly new cables.

In Canada consumer protection should allow you to return the bike within 30 days, especially if the dealer refused a test ride request.  I never had to try this with a bike, but it works on most other stuff..  I always read the fine print on the contract and scratch out the stuff that is out of my control.  Done this many times buying cars, but then most car dealers offer test drives before you even get through the door..

It's not that simple.   The front end is different, the forks springs, top triple tree, electronics, controls, even how it starts.   You MIGHT be Able to slide the fork tubes down and mount the controls on the TOP of the triple on the fork tubes., that with the risers might help.  The speedo is mounted differently too.

I don't know.  Tall to your dealer and see if they are willing to trade for a regular Bolt.

Taking a biike back and unwinding the deal is VERY complicated...I wouldn't count on that.    Regardless is the allowed a test ride or not, most states have no right to rescission for buying vehicles.    Usually only mortgages.

So after getting a closer look at the top triple clamp, I looks like the holes for the stock risers are there still, but the rubber bushings aren't.  You'll just need to add washers large enough to cover the holes if you decide to go to a more traditional riser and bar set up.  the other obstacle is going to be finding the correct type of bars for the controls.  You may want to look into the bars on the FZ-07.

So you are saying that the controls on my C-Spec won't fit onto a regular motorcycle handlebar? I was planning on changing the triple tree, new bar, and new grips (using the old controls on the new bar).

You really wouldn't need to change the triple tree.  The flat piece on top is just stick on with double sided tape.  The holes for the regular Bolt risers are underneath.  In order to add risers through those holes, you'll either need to add bushings in the holes, then add the risers.  You'll also have to determine which size bars you'll need....not sure if they are 1" or 7/8", so you can use the existing controls.  The FZ-07 appears to have the same controls as the C-Spec.

I assume you're referring to #13?

13 and 14  - you'll need the bushing and the cupped washer that the riser sits on.

You might want to try offering a trade on this site... lots of guys were putting clip-on bars last year... maybe someone will be interested in trading a full set of controls and cables with you.

I'm actually wanting to do the opposite. Go from r-spec to c-spec.
