i believe theyre all branded yamaha instead of star

What is that trim on the seam of the tank?

I've seen that trim alot at work. By right, it's used on the sharp edges of the metal control panel housings around the plant/platforms (oil and gas industry).

Alot of people line the brims of their safety helmets with this staunch, rubber trim. looks exactly like what OP has used on his tank seam.
