What do you think about this luggage solution?
« on: October 27, 2014, 09:01:15 pm »
Last Saturday I bought a used Bolt w/ a passenger seat and have been exploring ways to attach luggage.
What would you folks say about getting sidearms and a luggage rack, but WITHOUT a backrest? It seems that these two components together (along w/ the existing passenger seat) would provide enough lashing points and horizontal real estate for attaching a medium size bag. And if I ever wanted to, I could add a backrest later.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I did the same, sidebars & luggage rack but passed on the sissy bar.

Guess what? you're better getting the sissy bar! I eventually got the low one (which is reasonably high) but didn't get the backrest /pad. The sissy bar is great for lashing things to. I'm assuming you're riding solo so the pillion space is available and with the sissy bar you can load quite high. The rear backrest is pretty small, it's the right size to carry a gallon of fuel, that for me would have been the best use. Either that or ditch the rear luggage rack.

Thanks much u-bolt. That’s the kind of info I was looking for, including that the low sissy bar is plenty for the purpose of attaching stuff.
BTW, would you mind telling me how high the low sissy bar is? I can’t find that specified anywhere online.

Can one of you post a pic or two? I've been wondering about how to Transpo luggage riding alone

don't have the bike now so pics below are just what I have.

this shows my regular tailpack, you could take that off and strap quite a big bag to the sissy bar, resting where the tailpack is (on the pillion pad). You can see how small the rear rack is, as said before OK to strap on a gallon of fuel. I reckon the sissy bar is about 10" high, the high version is the same width probably about 14". Either would be good, a lot better IMO than the rear rack.

sissy bar is also great to grab hold of when reversing (off the bike!).
