Theft, Whats happened to you?
« on: May 16, 2017, 11:38:25 am »
So I got on my Bike this morning for work, started her up and noticed a little noise.
Come to find my two bolts that hold down the rear of my Gas Tank had been removed.

I assume fowl play because 3 days ago when I covered the bike I hadn't noticed it then.

Now I do live in Manhattan NYC, and park on the street, but a quite area with not much foot traffic. I have heard horror stories of Bikes being stolen in the city, but more along the lines of waking up to it gone...
What possibly could they have accomplished by un-bolting and getting under the fuel tank? I was thinking hot wire, but wouldn't it be easier to just go straight to the ignition?

Any opinions on security systems? Anything of that nature?

Safe riding all,

-T

SkyPatrol GPS tracker (formerly RealTime Kryptonite GPS System)

We do them $690 installed.

Track the bike from any web enabled device in real time, view historical data(locations, for when you need an alibi), motion sensor, starter enable/disable function.  Text or email security notifications.

We install about 15+ per month minumum.  100% success rate in recovery so far.  9 bikes stolen and recovered with the system.

There are companies that make audible alarms too.  If that bike is parked outside, you gotta try any deterrent you can find.

Try to be optimistic - maybe they only wanted those bolts, and not your bike!  ;)

I've heard great things about Skypatrol, as Pete has indicated.  That's what I would have if I parked my bike outside and unattended.

Someone probably directed them to steal a Yamaha Bolt.

They probably thought they did good by getting two.

I've looked a little into the little Bluetooth trackers (Trackr, Chipolo, Tile, etc), and don't think much of them. VERY limited range, and the bike HAS to be close to someone with Bluetooth enabled for it to work at all. I expect that all the metal on the bike doesn't help the range at all, either.
Some have less than 100 feet of range. not a great option - even for only $25, it's mostly a waste of money.
